I have read that cod liver oil will plump out the skin and get rid of my wrinkles? Is this true? And how should I use it, apply it to my skin or take it internally? However used, cod liver oil does not plump out the skin or remove wrinkles.

A fish oil, Vitamin A is a fat-soluble nutrient and is classified as a food supplement. Internally, Vitamin A aids in the growth and repair of body tissues and helps maintain smooth, soft, disease-free skin, and it also helps protect the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, throat and lungs. The application of cod liver oil, mineral oil, baby oil, avocado oil, or any other oils will help retard the evaporation of moisture or water from the skin, thus temporarily relieving some dry skins and making them feel smoother.

Esthetic, reconstructive surgery, either plastic or dermatologic surgery, is the only means of significantly reducing wrinkled skin. Cellular repair creams, lotions and other cosmetic creams are designed to strengthen or help the wrinkles look less noticeable.

Am a man in my early 30s who still has a lot of pimples – not all the time, only when I am under a lot of stress. I get regular facials and look after my skin, but I would like to know if I should squeeze pimples? There seems to be a lot of controversy about this. What is your opinion? I would squeeze pimples, but there is a right and wrong way of doing it. Emptying out the bacteria, pus and irritating skin oils will hasten the healing process.

I would not attempt to squeeze cyst types, “blind” pimples under the skin, rosacea acne, a sebaceous cyst, or a boil type. Leave these to the professionals.

Before you squeeze, make sure your hands and face are clean, use a sterilized needle to puncture or de-roof the pimple for an opening, wrap a kleenex around the fingers so that they don’t slip on the skin, gently apply pressure with the pads of your fingers and not your nails. Use gentle pressure, otherwise, hard pressure can force the bacteria and oil to burst into the surrounding tissue, thereby causing more irritation and more infection, which will result in a larger, redder pimple. Be sure to clean out the pimple completely with an antibacterial agent or hydrogen perioxide.

Don’t squeeze pimples in the area from between the eyebrows right down to the corners of the mouth and this includes the sides of the nose. It could be dangerous to have an infection in this area.

Does using bleaching creams lighten blackheads? Bleaching creams are for gradual spot removal, but blackheads are a result of accumulated dead skin cells, oils, pigments or melanin of the skin cells that have oxidized and turned black. They should be removed (squeezed) out.

I use a bleaching cream and would like to know if you should apply it over or under a sunscreen.

The major ingredient in bleaching creams is hydro-quinone, a chemical that lightens the color of the skin very gradually and evens out dark blotches or pigmentation. Always apply bleaching cream under a sunscreen. This will protect you from some of the sun’s rays that would otherwise aggravate your problem. In fact, most bleaching creams come packaged with a sunscreen incorporated in them.

If you have developed dark pigmentation for any reason, you should avoid tanning altogether. It can make the blotches worse or you may have a chemical reaction with the sun and bleaching cream.
